Walk-away floor = base with no buffer. A client negotiating below it is asking you to fund their project.

Why the buffer isn't padding

On fixed-price work you are selling insurance along with the code: the client gets cost certainty, and you absorb the variance. Insurance has a price. A 25% buffer on a fuzzy scope isn't greed — it's the actuarially fair cost of the revision round nobody mentioned and the API that turned out to be undocumented. Quote without it and you haven't lowered the project's cost; you've just volunteered to pay the difference yourself, at exactly the moment you're most annoyed.

quote_builder --pro

The Freelance Rate & Project Pricing Workbook (Pro) breaks quotes into phases with per-phase hours and risk, generates a client-ready proposal, and tracks billed vs. paid by client. One-time $29, Excel & LibreOffice, no macros.
